Bexley investigation Mom arrested in sex case involving teen

A Bexley woman wanted by police on a charge that she had oral sex with a 14-year-old girl during a party at her home was arrested at a Far East Side apartment complex yesterday.

Becky Jo Tatum, 41, of 2761 Bellwood Ave., was taken to the Franklin County jail after she was arrested at 9 a.m. in a parking lot at the Kensington Commons apartments at Gender and Refugee roads. Police said they found Tatum after receiving an anonymous tip.

Tatum, a mother of two, regularly had parties with teenagers at her home, police said. During a party this month, the 14-year-old said, Tatum “was acting very flirtatious with everyone,” according to a police request for a search warrant.

Tatum took the girl’s hand and led her to the master bedroom, where they had oral sex, court documents said. The girl was not forced to have sex and returned to the party afterward, she told police.

The girl told police that she informed Tatum’s daughter, 17, about the encounter, and the daughter replied that “there were no hard feelings, that ‘Mom has done this before with my friends. I’m kinda use to it.’ ”

Warrants issued last Friday charged Tatum with having unlawful sex with a minor. Her case will be presented to a grand jury and could lead to more charges, police said.

Tatum pleaded guilty in 1998 to promoting prostitution, a felony, and attempting to possess drugs and attempting to receive stolen property, both misdemeanors. A year earlier, she pleaded guilty to attempting to traffic drugs, also a misdemeanor.

Her daughter and a 10-year-old son have been staying with relatives.

Female Manhattan teacher charged in student sex case

A Manhattan High School teacher found parked with a student late Wednesday was charged Thursday afternoon with unlawful sexual relations.

Katherine J. Harder, 31, was booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail on Wednesday after a sheriff’s deputy found her with a 17-year-old boy in the Spillway Marina Park area of Tuttle Creek Dam.

The language arts teacher resigned Thursday morning, said Michele Jones, communications coordinator for Manhattan-Ogden Unified School District 383. Jones said Harder had taught for three years in the district working with students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

The school board, Jones said, would consider Harder’s resignation when it meets April 2.

“We’ve certainly been talking with our faculty and will talk with the students in her classes beginning tomorrow,” Jones said. “Just try to assist people as they need assistance.”

Thursday afternoon, she said the principal still was working through what he will tell Harder’s students during meetings today. Until the arrest, Jones said Harder hadn’t had any problems on her job performance evaluations nor had there been any other “issues to indicate a problem.”

Sheriff Greg Riat said a deputy was patrolling at 10 p.m. Thursday when he noticed a parked vehicle and decided to check it out.

Riat declined to answer several detailed questions, saying he would leave most comments up to the county attorney. Also, he said, he wanted to help ensure a fair trial.

He said investigators weren’t aware of any other incidents related to the teacher, but the investigation continues.

“I think it would be safe to say it’s ongoing for the time being,” he said.

Although teenagers can legally consent to sex at age 16, it is a felony offense in Kansas for teachers to have a consensual sexual relationship with a student of any age who attends the school where they work. Such offenses also are grounds for losing a teaching license.

County Attorney Sherri Schuck said the unlawful sexual relations charge carries a sentence of five to 13 months. A first appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m. April 15 in Pottawatomie County District Court.

Harder was released on $3,000 bond Thursday morning. Authorities released the boy to his parents.

Harder has been licensed as a secondary English teacher in the state since 2002, according to licensure records kept by the Kansas State Department of Education.

When it comes to teachers and students, there is no such thing as consensual sex, experts said Thursday.

The power differential is too exploitative in those sexual encounters, said Charol Shakeshaft, a former Hofstra University professor who now teaches educational leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University and is an expert on sexual abuse in schools.

“It’s a violation of trust and professional boundaries,” Shakeshaft said of a March 20 encounter Nassau police say happened between Heather Kennedy, 25, a math teacher at Wantagh High School, and a 16-year-old boy who is a student at the school.

Kennedy was arraigned Thursday on charges of statutory rape and endangering the welfare of a child. The age of sexual consent in New York state is 17, police said.
Even if the boy wasn’t in Kennedy’s class, Shakeshaft said the mere fact that he attended the same school indicates “sexual exploitation and bad judgment,” she said.

And when the teacher is a woman and the student is a boy, the sensationalist aspects of these liaisons are magnified, Shakeshaft said.

“I believe that females get a lot more attention [in the media] because I think it adds another dimension,” she said. “People don’t seem to think it’s child abuse then.”…[..]

Mit dem, was Herr Thiel schrieb, kann ich mich sehr gut identifizieren, denn auch meine persönliche Geschichte stimmt mit seinen Thesen im groben überein. Auch bei mir ließen die Übergriffe mit zunehmendem Alter nach, etwa ab meinem 13 Lebensjahr wurde es seltener.

Für ein paar Minuten quetschte sie mir immer wieder die Hoden und sagte so Sachen wie: “Dich kleines Ferkel werde ich lehren.” Es machte ihr richtig Spass, mich so zu foltern, wobei ich das damals absolut nicht einordnen konnte. Für mich war es einfach nur verwirrend, dass ich etwas böses getan hatte, worüber sie hätte böse sein müssen, statt dessen hatte sie diesen grimmigen Spass dabei, mich zu bestrafen.

Ich bin im nez vorhin zufällig auf einen beitrag gestossen, bei dem jemand sich über rollenspiele äusserte, also rollenspiele in sachen sex. nun gibts ja die allg. rollenspiele (weiss nicht wie man das nennen würde - also weiss ich was… polizist oder nutte oder so) und dann eben inzest-rollenspiele. letzteres meine ich. oder kann man beide arten der rollenspiele vergleichen?

er schrieb dort, das ihn folgende phantasien geil machen würden, wobei er meinte, bisher handelt es sich bei ihm um phantasien, aber er würde sie gerne als rollenspiel mit anderen erwachsenen durchspielen:

mutter / sohn oder tante / neffe, wo mutter bzw. tante dominant ist und ihn für ihre Lust (sehr versaut) benutzt.

so hat er es beschrieben. tja, und wenn man damit nicht am hut hat, kommt man doch irgendwie ins grübeln. habe schonmal direkt gefragt, aber sie können ja selbst nicht beschreiben wieso und warum - und
hintergründe die mich interessieren, also aus psychologischer sicht, bekommt man auf diese weise auch nicht.

ich habe sowas oder ähnliches schon öfter gelesen und frage mich nun, warum macht das erwachsene so an? was spielt sich da ab? der mann hier ist über 40 jahre alt und will ja die rolle des neffen oder sohnes inne haben. also gehts ja wohl nicht darum, das er etwas im spiel erst auslebt und sich dann irgendwann an kindern vergreift oder? -
mein eindruck ist - das tatsächlicher missbrauch und diese rollenspiele 2 verschiedene dinge sind. stimmt das?

und die eigentliche frage - wie kommt ein erwachsener mensch zu solchen phantasien, wie entwickeln sich diese, meine - wie ist ein mensch dann beschaffen psychisch oder ist da als kind was “schiefgelaufen” oder es eher so, das es eigentlich normal ist aber nicht jeder als erwachsener dann diese phantasien entwickelt?

als kind ist ja die erste liebe der vater bei der tochter und die mutter beim sohn soweit ich weiss. - besteht hier ein zusammenhang zu den späteren hier beschrieben phantasien oder dienen diese als ersatz, weil die person sich anders nicht fallenlassen kann oder liegen hier ganz andere “dinge” zugrunde?
entsteht hier die grundlage vielleicht oder gehen solche phantasien erst als erwachsener los und in den jahren dazwischen ist nichts in der art? oder gibts schlüsselerlebnisse die den reiz ausmachen?

bestehen ausserdem hier gefahren für die person selbst oder für die umwelt?

da ich bisher nur mal am rande davon las, habe ich “es” nicht hinterfragt sondern eher als in dem falle harmlose art der auslebung von seiten gesehen, die sich die person sonst nicht erlauben könnte. - ähnlich wie ich es mir für bdsm als spielart denke.
da ich in jenem forum aber schon viel von der person gelesen habe und auch mal gemailt habe, komme ich nun ins grübeln was sich dahinter verbrigt, weil eben ein gewisser persönlicher bezug da ist durch die kontakte.

hoffe, das war nun nicht zu umständlich beschrieben und echte fachleute geben mir hier informationen, damit ich das mal durchblicke ansatz-
weise.

ich weiss, das waren eine menge fragen, aber das waren nichtmal alle*g

TAMPA, FL — The list of Tampa area teachers charged with having sex with teenagers is getting longer.

A 40-year-old substitute teacher is accused of sleeping with a 16-year-old.

It’s the third such accusation in the area in just two weeks.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s office says 40-year-old Lisa Marinelli, a substitute teacher, started having sex with a 16-year-old boy in January.

The sheriff’s office isn’t saying whether the boy, who is 17 now, is a student at Mitchell High School, where Marinelli worked.

What investigators are saying is that Marinelli gave the boy a pair of her underwear, called him hundreds of times, and sent him text messages.

The sheriff’s office says the boy’s father called authorities when he saw his son getting out of Marinelli’s car and straightening up his pants.

Pasco Schools Superintendent Heather Fiorentino and Mitchell Principal Ric Mellin didn’t return calls to talk about Marinelli’s arrest.

Concerned parents say they want to know why this problem seems to be on the rise.

The sheriff’s office says the boy told investigators he had sex with her ten times during the months of January and February.

She’s being held at the Pasco County Jail on $20,000 bond.

A Lawrenceville woman didn’t want a 20-year-old man  to be arrested for having consensual sex with her 14-year-old daughter, police said.

Police say it doesn’t matter because the man broke the law.

Gomez-Gonzalez was charged with statutory rape. The mother, Rosa Benavides-Arellano, 42, was charged with being a party to statutory rape. They were arrested last week.

According to a police report, Gomez-Gonzales had sex with - and impregnated - the 14-year old while staying at her mother’s home.

A case worker with the Division of Family and Children Services reportedly met with the girl’s mother on March 17 after someone from Richards Middle School found out the 14-year-old was two months pregnant. Benavides-Arellano told them Gonzalez had been living in her home for about a month, a police report says.

According to the police report, Benavides-Arellano knew Gomez-Gonzalez was having sex with her daughter. She told police he was living with them because he wanted to provide for the 14-year-old and the unborn baby. Neither Benavides-Arellano nor her daughter wanted Gonzalez to be arrested, police said.

After speaking with the case worker, Gonzalez voluntarily packed his belongings and moved to his cousin’s house in Lawrenceville.

Three days later, he was questioned by police and arrested.

The age of consent in Georgia is 16, said Capt. Greg Vaughn, spokesman for the Lawrenceville Police Department. For someone older than 16 to have sex with someone younger than 16 is illegal.

“At 14 years old, it doesn’t matter if her parents give consent. That’s the law,” Vaughn said.

If only four years or less separate the ages of the victim and offender, and the victim is at least 14, the offender can be prosecuted with just a misdemeanor. This is sometimes referred to as a “Romeo and Juliet” clause.

Gomez-Gonzalez is six years older than the alleged victim, so he faces a felony statutory rape charge and would be forced to register as a sex offender if convicted.

BEXLEY, Ohio -

Police on Monday said they were searching for a woman accused of having oral sex with a 14-year-old girl.   Becky Jo Tatum is charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to the arrest warrant.   The warrant reveals that the teenager was visiting Tatum’s home earlier this month when the alleged sexual conduct occurred.   According to police, the case began as an investigation into possible drug activity.

“This all started out as a drug investigation and as a result of the drug investigation we seized Becky’s computers,” said Bexley police Detective Bob Cuschleg. “Looking at the computers we found images that were a little disturbing.”   Cuschleg did not elaborate on the images, but said they were of children ‘”role playing,” 10TV’s Tracy Townsend reported.   “There’s actually no sexual act in the images on the computer,” Cuschleg said. “What we’ve done is we have investigated the images we found on the computer (and) we found a victim that actually had a sexual contact with Becky Jo Tatum.”  

Tatum, 41, is described as white, 6 feet tall and weighs 145 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.   Records obtained by 10TV News on Monday showed that Tatum was previously charged with prostitution, theft and drug trafficking, Townsend reported.   Police said that the investigation was ongoing and revealed the possibility of additional victims.   “We have to get her off the streets and behind bars and start to resolve these matters,” Cuschleg said. “The quicker we can get this behind us, the better chance these victims or potential victims can get on with their lives.”
